Ceramic feedthrough
SCT manufactures custom designed ceramic sealed feedthrus: hermetic feedthroughs for high-tech applications.
Hermetic feedthroughs applications: our ceramic feedthroughs are used in harsh environments:
- Military standards
- Space applications
- Hermetic feedthroughs for industry
- Vacuum ceramic feedthrus for nuclear market
- Ceramic feedthroughs for biomedical implantable applications: cardiac assistance devices: hermetic feedthroughs for pacemakers or defibrillators and cochlear implants.
Hermetic feedthrus for electrical stimulation implantable medical devices
Implantable hermetic feedthroughs allow electricity to pass in or out of the implanted device, with a leak-tight seal around each pin. These metal pins are made of Platine-Iridium or Niobium and must not come into direct contact with the housing to avoid short-circuit.
99.99% gold is a typical braze material used to join each metal pin to the ceramic insulator. Ceramic isolating materials are preferred to glass, as ceramic to metal seals are more resistant and safer. For the preparation of the ceramic surface for brazing by the application of a thin film of biocompatible metal, SCT ceramics employs a process known as “sputtering” (PVD).
SCT’s hermetic feedthroughs are tested 100% to guarantee the hermetic failsafe properties.
